etsy and her whole family are peculiar people. Since she married my brother we are thrown together often because they are great believers in families being close. Betsy and her family speak Spanish. Whenever we are to-gether my folks and I sit there like outsiders because we don't understand what is being said. We were raised where folks are hospitable and friendly. Is there any way we can let them know we feel uncomfortable when they speak a foreign lan-guage right in front of us? Maybe if they knew, they'd cut it out.-Polly

Instead of sitting there, smoldering, why not let them know you want to learn a few words of their language? Try to teach them some English. It will break the sound bar-rier and you'll all wind up liking each other better. Communi-cation is more than words. It's a smile, a look in the eye, and a warm feeling that never gets lost in the translation.
