Dear Ann Landers,
read that two genetic researchers, Dr. J. Michael Bailey at Northwestern University in Illinois and Dr. Richard Pillard of the Boston University School of Medicine, have turned up some convincing evidence about homosexuality based on studies of identical twins. The results have established that genes may play a major role in whether a person is gay or straight. Since there is now scientific evidence that homosexuals are born that way and their lifestyle is not something they choose, do you think peo-ple will be less hostile to and more tolerant of homosexuals? Please re-spond in the paper. This is a subject that a great many people are interested in and need to know more about. -Covina, Calif.

Our Reader to Reader Question of the Week:

Dear Readers,
, they voted to close their plants so they could live off generous benefits. The Depression-era experiences of your parents are no different from the experiences of today’s young people. We got “riffed” by Rea-gan and “bankrupted” by Bush. Our taxes are paying for your Medicare and Social Security. Compared to today, the Depression was a day at the beach. I started to work when I was 14. I put myself through undergradu-ate and graduate school by working 60-hour weeks, and graduated summa cum laude. When the first wave of downsizing hit during the early ’80s, I liquidated my assets to go to law school, thinking a legal career would provide job security. I worked 90 hours a week, no over-time or time off for holidays or vacations. Yet I was downsized two more times. I have no pension, my savings are gone and I’m reduced to living with family members. The II f s e ii f Ann L a n ii e r s I 33 7 If you have the guts to print this letter, please don’t use my name be-cause I’m trying to find a job-again. -Unemployed MBA/JD
