Dear Ann Landers, My husband and I have been playing bridge with a certain couple for over twelve years. They are superb bridge players and we are, too. We have a game every Thursday night, and when we play cards we mean business. It is not uncommon for $40 or $50 to change hands in an eve-ning. A few days ago I learned that this couple had an elegant dinner party at their club. More than thirty couples were present. My husband and I were not invited. I am deeply hurt. Shall I tell them at our next card game that if we aren't good enough to be invited to their parties, we aren't good enough to play cards with them?-Grand Slam
Dear Grand,
The answer is in your letter. You said, "When we play cards we mean business." Well, they mean business, too, and that's the nature of your relationship. If you enjoy matching skills with this couple, continue to play cards with them, but recognize the fact that you are not social friends.
