Dear Ann Landers, My mother-in-law doesn't like to write letters. She puts everything on postal cards, and I mean every-thing. Unfortunately, our mailman has a very big mouth. There is no such thing as a secret in this town. A few weeks ago my mother-in-law wrote the following message on a card: It's too bad the bank turned down your loan. I wish I could send you the money but I can't right now. If you would like me to speak to your Uncle Leonard, I will do so. You did pay back the money you borrowed from him to buy the car, didn't you? I boiled for weeks over that one. My husband said I was sensitive. This morning I received a card from her which said: If you aren't have any success getting pregnant, Alice, why not talk to Martha? Maybe she will pass along some secret hints. What do you think about this, Ann?-Just Burning 208
Dear Just,
Personal business should not be written on postal cards, even if your mailman has a small mouth. Send your mother-in-law a box of self-addressed stamped envelopes with cards inside and tell her you'd appreciate it if she'd use them.
