Dear Ann Landers, Fifteen years ago I lost my purse which had twenty dollars in it. My husband told me I was too dumb to handle money, and he hasn't given me a nickel since. I've never seen Walter's paycheck and have no idea what he earns. He keeps his bankbook in code. We have four children. They get a weekly allowance but I don't get one. Whenever I want a dollar I have to beg for it. Walter says he earns the money and is therefore entitled to dole it out as he sees fit. Is this right?- On Charity
Dear On,
A wife who cares for the house and children doesn't need to bring home a paycheck. You are entitled to an allowance, and you can tell Mr. Great Heart I said so. It might be comforting for you to know that some women who have stacks of spending money are just as unhappy as you. Maybe unhappier. Read on.
