Dear Ann Landers,
am a high-school girl who believes in free love. There are plenty more like me. I am not a pushover. I come from a high-class family and I make good grades. I see nothing wrong with sleeping with different boys so long as I like them and they like me-as a person, I mean. Virginity is an old-fashioned idea that makes no sense anymore. Why should a girl save herself for a man who is not making any great effort to save himself for her? In our social group I don't know of a single guy who has done much of a preservation job. Sex is an important part of marriage, and I want to be the perfect wife. The practice I am getting now will be very useful when Mr. Right comes along. So you see, there are logical and sensible arguments against virginity.-Miss Honest
Dear Miss,
If you are sleeping around to get experience for Mr. Right, you can stop now. Mr. Right will not view your list 184 of bed-partners as impressive credentials. In fact, he might get the idea that you are a tramp. I don't expect to cut any mustard with you, Toots, but for the girls who have not yet lost the Great Debate, I'd like to say this: Insofar as sex is concerned, practice does not make perfect. It does make juicy conversation in locker rooms, and of course it can also make babies, as the young girl who wrote the next letter discovered.
